The Safe to Sleep® campaign focuses on ways that parents, caregivers, and health care providers can reduce baby’s risk of SIDS and other sleep-related causes of infant death.

In the 20 years since the campaign started, SIDS rates in the United States have dropped by more than 50%.

However, SIDS remains the leading cause of death for U.S. infants between 1 month and 1 year of age. Other sleep-related causes of infant death, such as accidental suffocation, are claiming babies’ lives as well. About 3,400 infants die of SIDS and other sleep-related causes of infant death each year.

The good news is, there are ways to reduce risk. But we need your help to spread the word!

Join the Safe to Sleep® Thunderclap to help raise awareness of safe infant sleep recommendations among your fans and followers.

Here’s how:

  1. SELECT one of the red buttons at the top of this page to sign up to share the safe sleep message via Twitter, Facebook, and/or Tumblr. Thunderclap will automatically post a message on your behalf on October 20th.
  2. ENCOURAGE others to do the same between now and October 20th by sharing the link to this page via social media, email, or your website.

Our goal is to get 100 people to sign up. By reaching our goal, we can potentially educate thousands about safe infant sleep, all at once.

Simple actions can make a big difference. Thank you for your support.

The Safe to Sleep® campaign is led by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Safe to Sleep® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

@NICHD_NIH

The Safe to Sleep® campaign started in 1994 as Back to Sleep, with the goal of educating parents, caregivers, and health care providers about ways to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). In 2012, the effort was expanded into the Safe to Sleep® campaign to address issues beyond SIDS, such as a safe infant sleep environment and other sleep-related causes of infant death.

The campaign works closely with and within communities to spread safe infant sleep messages and help reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related causes of infant death, such as accidental suffocation.

Join the Thunderclap to help spread the word about Safe to Sleep® in your community!
