What is “Supporting”?
Supporting a Thunderclap campaign is like signing a petition but with the added power of simultaneously sharing a message. You and every other supporter are standing up for an idea with the power of your voice.
How do I support?
Choose between your Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr account to grant Thunderclap permission to post a message on your behalf. That’s it! If the campaign reaches its support goal by the deadline, Thunderclap will automatically post your message and all other supporters' messages at the same time.
A note on privacy
When you log into Thunderclap using your Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr account, you’re allowing our platform to share a single message on your behalf. That’s all. We use the absolute minimum permissions possible to post a message on your behalf. The platforms we integrate with sometimes include additional permissions that we do not use and we will not post anything from your friends' accounts.
The Chevron oil spill in the Ecuadorian rainforest is one of the biggest environmental disasters in world history. Three decades after Texaco (now Chevron) ended its operations in the region, more than 30 000 indigenous people and farmers are still exposed to the poisonous spills. In 2011, the Supreme Court in Ecuador ordered Chevron to pay more than 9 billion US dollars for a health programme for the victims and for the clean-up of their lands. However, Chevron refuses to pay and has promised the victims “a lifetime of lawsuits”. The company is coming under increasing pressure in 2016 as three attempts to seize their assets in other countries are nearing their logical conclusion. But the legal team representing the indigenous peoples and local farmers still needs your support.
Grrrowd mobilizes the global crowd to support these victims for as long as it takes. Your donation will help them to win this legal "David vs. Goliath" battle to achieve justice.
Thanks for helping us to get 100 supporters! It's great to see a couple of Alternative Nobel Price winners and civil society organisations joining this thunderclap, but ALL OF YOU are helping us to reach out to over a quarter million people. We now need to build on this momentum to find another 150 supporters. Please keep spreading the word!
Together we can keep the lawyers going. Together we can contribute to a long overdue clean-up of toxic spills.
