There exists a clear gender gap in STEM industries – that is, professions in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields. According to a recent study, women fill only 13% of jobs in these areas. This lack of gender diversity is a rising issue. Not only because a greater female presentation would significantly add to the annual GDP, but also because reports have shown that 71% of the jobs in 2018 will require STEM skill sets. Evidently, women can no longer be in the minority and Mediaplanet has been involved for eight consecutive years in driving a change in the ratio.
In our 2016 campaign we focus our attention on the upcoming female generations. We have worked to break down the STEM stereotype through providing insight from leading women in the industries – figures that we believe will be role models to inspire and stimulate an audience of younger girls. We will also be addressing the need to recreate workplace cultures in these occupations to encourage these women to remain in their roles and fulfil their potential.
Our campaign launches on 23rd June in light of National Women in Engineering Day and during London Technology week. It will be both an insight into the achievements of STEM women worldwide and show what these industries hold for the next generation of women.
Join us in promoting the issue of diversity in STEM and together we can propel positive change within these industries.
