by Changing Places category: Cause
Standard accessible toilets do not meet the needs of thousands of disabled people.
To use the toilet in safety and comfort, many people need to be able to access a Changing Places toilet, which provides a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist.
Without Changing Places toilets, people are faced with the decision between not going out, limiting outings or being changed on a toilet floor or baby change table. This is unsafe, unhygienic and unacceptable.
There are now 1000 registered Changing Places toilets across the UK but this still falls short of demand. We need more people to make a noise about the need for Changing Places toilets until everyone is able to access a toilet that meets their needs.
The Changing Places campaign has been campaigning for fully accessible toilets with a bench and hoist since 2006.
