Fire Door Safety Week 2017

Fire doors are a crucial part of the passive fire protection of every commercial, public and multiple occupancy building. Schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, factories, bars, restaurants, libraries, rented flats... fire doors are needed in all sorts of buildings. A dodgy fire door usually indicates an unsafe building overall, but a good quality, well installed and maintained, and properly used fire door could save your life one day.

There are about 3 million new fire doors bought and installed every year in the UK, the vast majority made from timber. Fire doors are often the first line of defence in a fire and their correct specification, maintenance and management can be the difference between life and death for building occupants.

However, they remain a significant area of neglect, often the first thing to be downgraded on a specification and mismanaged throughout their service life, propped open, damaged and badly maintained.

That's why we created Fire Door Safety Week. A campaign launched by the British Woodworking Federation, BWF-CERTIFIRE Scheme and Fire Door Inspection Scheme, it attracts hundreds of collaborating organisations and last year reached more than 12 million people.

Here is what you can do to help:
Please join our Thunderclap and help us spread the message even further this year. Thank you.

Fire Door Safety Week is an annual campaign in the UK to raise awareness of the critical importance of fire doors in protecting life and property, drawing attention to specific issues such as poor installation and maintenance, and encouraging building owners and users to check the operation and condition of their fire doors and to report those that aren’t satisfactory.
