What is “Supporting”?
Supporting a Thunderclap campaign is like signing a petition but with the added power of simultaneously sharing a message. You and every other supporter are standing up for an idea with the power of your voice.
How do I support?
Choose between your Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr account to grant Thunderclap permission to post a message on your behalf. That’s it! If the campaign reaches its support goal by the deadline, Thunderclap will automatically post your message and all other supporters' messages at the same time.
A note on privacy
When you log into Thunderclap using your Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr account, you’re allowing our platform to share a single message on your behalf. That’s all. We use the absolute minimum permissions possible to post a message on your behalf. The platforms we integrate with sometimes include additional permissions that we do not use and we will not post anything from your friends' accounts.
Rhino poaching is, tragically, a growth industry. And when each rhino horn is worth more than a living rhino, this is unlikely to change unless we act to change it.
That is why the Castle Lager Boucher Legacy wants everyone to come together to place every rhino in safe hands.
Using the Rhino DNA Index System project, run by the VGL lab based in Onderstepoort, we want to DNA profile every individual rhino in South Africa. This will provide a powerful disincentive to poachers as every horn can be traced back to its source. This technology has already been used to put poachers behind bars, with the system being used in cases of rhino poaching already. We have already tagged 616 rhino and we want to extend this protection to all South African rhinos and, hopefully, beyond South Africa’s borders.
Finding, tagging and profiling a rhino costs on average R10 000 ($1000) per rhino, so we cannot hope to achieve this goal without your help.
This World Rhino Day, the 22nd of September, come together to add your voice to the call for donations. Because together, we can place all our rhino in safe hands.
Come together again this year to Protect What is Ours
September 16, 2015
Dear friend of the Castle Lager Boucher Legacy
Last year, you added your voice to millions of others in order to raise funds for the CASTLE Lager Boucher Legacy. Thanks to your support, we helped the Rhino DNA Index System as they created an index of our South African rhino’s unique DNA profiles.
The Index has proven to be vastly effective as a tool to prosecute poachers found in possession of horns, as the tagged horns can be traced back to their place of origin. These prosecutions also act as a deterrent to future poachers.
This problem is that the project is not yet operating at the scale necessary to combat the mass killing of rhino by poachers. It’s clear that we need to expand our efforts.
So we are asking you again to donate your voice to ours so that we can continue to fight the scourge of rhino poaching.
As last time, all we need you to do visit this years Thunderclap on this link, http://thndr.it/1Q8n4oZ and donate your social reach.
The Castle Lager Boucher Legacy is involved with the Rhino DNA Index System project run by the VGL lab based in South Africa. We want to DNA profile each and every rhino in South Africa. This makes prosecution easier and more effective as well as helps us identify where illegal rhino horn is coming from.
