International Day for Disaster Reduction takes place every 13 October. The focus of the 2015 edition is traditional, indigenous and local knowledge, which complement modern
science and boost the resilience of individuals and societies.
Achieving substantial reductions in mortality and economic losses are key targets of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. The Sendai Framework seeks to promote greater action on the management not only of disasters but also of disaster risk.
The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), dedicated to helping countries and communities lower risk and raise resilience in the face of natural and man-made hazards, as set down in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
