#switch2sendai

In the 12 months since the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction was adopted on March 18, 2015, 100 million people have suffered the impact of a drought, a flood, a storm, an earthquake, a heatwave or some other natural hazard. Many have lost their homes and livelihoods or suffered a personal injury. Over 20,000 lost their lives.

The Sendai Framework includes for the first time not just natural hazards but also man-made hazards, covering environmental, technological and biological hazards. It places the health of people and the resilience of health infrastructure at the heart of disaster risk management for the first time. It seeks a reduction in disaster risk globally and substantial reductions in disaster losses including mortality, numbers of people affected, economic losses and damage to critical infrastructure. This Thunderclap aims to encourage implementation and raise awareness.
