MY STORY MY DIGNITY: Too often, we speak on behalf of survivors of slavery. In the videos above we’ve let survivors do the talking instead. They’ve told us that often the images and language used to tell their stories do not reflect them accurately or in a dignified way.
We want to do something about this, so we are calling on the four largest English-language media organizations in the world to ask that they update their style guide to improve how they use survivors’ stories to report on modern slavery. Help spread the word by joining our Thunderclap.***
Standing with victims and survivors of modern slavery is crucial to achieving our great vision – a world without slavery. Why? Because victims are often unable to end their situations, and survivors do not yet have the power they should to ensure their voices are heard.
why WalkFree.org has changed our name to Freedom United — to show that if we all stand
together, we can be one powerful voice able to end modern slavery.
Sign up to our Thunderclap to post a one-time message on your social channels to show that you stand united with survivors.
We are redefining this movement as Freedom United to offer more ways to spread the word that modern slavery exists, to get involved in the cause and to give a platform to survivors and organizations pushing for change.

Freedom United is the world’s largest anti-slavery organization. Originally launched as WalkFree.org, we are a global movement of people who have joined together as one voice against modern slavery. With the latest digital advocacy tools, a global partnership network of on-the-ground organizations, and a community of over 8 million supporters, we believe freedom is a birthright, not a privilege. Our mission is making that belief a reality.
