Music is one of the most captivating parts of Instagram, especially when used the right way to add additional vibes to your content, be it in Instagram stories or in your own posts. While you can’t directly add music to in-feed posts, you can add it to your Instagram stories directly from Instagram.
One of the most frustrating moments is when you go to search for a song, and you get the “no results found” on Instagram music. What’s up with that?
Perhaps you need access to a song for your content to make sense, or you have the perfect combination in mind to make your content stand out. No matter why you want to use a particular song, it’s really a pain when it doesn’t come up in the search results.
You may be trying to search for specific music, but something just isn’t going your way. Don’t worry, you’re not the first Instagram user to experience this, and you likely won’t be the last, unfortunately.
In some cases, it may even work on one of your other Instagram accounts, but not the other.
The error could show up out of nowhere, leaving you bewildered as to why you’re seeing this message out of the blue. Why would Instagram music work one day, and not the next?
In this post, we’re going to help you resolve any issues when you see the “no results found” on Instagram music. Hopefully you’ll be able to find the jam you’re looking for and get your content out to the world.
Let’s find out what we can do to fix this error.
Is Music Important on Instagram Stories?
You weren’t always able to add music to Instagram stories. The feature came to be in 2018, and ever since then, users have been using music to add flair and creativity to their IG stories.
The great thing about using music in Instagram stories is that it can capture the attention of your viewers. Static photos, which before had no sound, can now have additional emotion and energy through the music that you choose to add.
Not only that, perhaps you want to add video, but you don’t want to have the original sound on. If you just muted it, it would be awkward and feel as if it were missing something. Now, with the addition of music, you can add the right tone to the video without keeping the original audio.
Instagram stories allow you to choose the part of the song that you want to include in your story, which is great because you can feature the section that connects with your content the most. Your content will have more personality and will say more about you, your business, or your brand.
If you’re not sure how to add music to your Instagram story, let’s recap:
- Open Instagram and go to your story. You can either swipe the home screen to the right or click your story icon in the top left of the screen.
- Once you’ve shot or selected the content you want for your story, click the Sticker icon at the top of the screen (it looks like a happy face).
- Find the Music sticker.
- Search for the song you’d like to include and tap on it.
- You can then select the part of the song that you want to display in your story, as well as how you’d like it to display. You can either have lyrics appear, an icon that appears with the title and album cover, or the album cover with info below it.
- Once the sticker appears on your story, you can make it bigger or smaller by pinching in and out with two fingers. You can also move it around and place it wherever you’d like.
If you’ve gone through those steps but have gotten hung up and received the “no results found” on Instagram music, read on to troubleshoot the issue.
How to Fix “No Results Found” on Instagram Music
The Instagram “no results found” error is a known glitch that many users have been experiencing on Instagram. Unfortunately, that means it’s coming from Instagram’s end, and there’s not too much you can do to fix it.
It’s likely that in future updates, Instagram will include a bug fix that will eliminate this issue for most, but one thing you could do in the meantime is uninstall the app and reinstall it. This will restart the app from scratch and could solve the issue.
Another reason why some users experience issues with Instagram music is due to their account type. Previously, Instagram didn’t offer music for business profiles, which is something that has affected accounts in gaining access to the feature.
If you’re getting “no results found” on Instagram music, you could try switching your Instagram account from a professional account to a personal account to resolve it.
After switching from a professional account to a personal account, visit your Instagram story editor and see if you can search for and add music once again. If you can, it’s likely that you got the “no results found” error due to your professional account type.
Businesses have access to Instagram music, but it may be significantly restricted due to copyright laws. When businesses want to use music for commercial use, it can cause issues with the original creator.
That’s the reason why many songs may cause the “no results found” on Instagram music. In the past, businesses never had access to Instagram music. Now, some professional accounts do have it, but it may be limited.
Here are three steps to switch back to a personal account and fix the “no results found” error on Instagram music.
Step 1: Visit Your Settings
First, open the Instagram app on your device. Then, go to your Instagram profile by clicking your profile picture icon at the bottom right of the app landing page.
Once you’re on your profile page, tap on the Menu icon (three horizontal lines). That will open up a new menu with different options to select.
The first option will be Settings, so tap that. This will take us to the next step.
Step 2: Tap Account > Switch Account Type
After you have the Settings page open, your goal is to switch the account type. Anytime you’d like to change your account type, you can navigate to this menu to do so.
There are a variety of other settings available, including Notifications, Privacy, Security, and many more. Skip all of these and towards the bottom of the list, you’ll see Account. Tap that option.
Once on the Account screen, you’ll see all available options for account settings, many of them you’ve probably never even seen before! The good news is that you don’t need to dive into any of them, as it’s very easy to switch your account menu from this screen.
You’re looking for the option at the very bottom of the screen that reads Switch Back to Personal Account. This is where the final step comes in.
Step 3: Tap Switch to Personal Account
Now, Instagram allows you to add new professional accounts to your Instagram, which will be the final option on the list. We don’t want to do that, however— we’re looking for the option directly above that one, which is Switch Back to Personal Account.
After clicking on that, you’ll be asked to confirm. Personal accounts can be set to private, unlike professional accounts, so that could be one benefit if you want to limit your audience and require that people request you in order to follow.
If you don’t want that, don’t worry: it’s not required that your account be private. It’s just an option that business accounts don’t have.
The only downside to switching your account back to a personal account is that you won’t have access to your Instagram insights, something that may severely hinder your ability to gage your Instagram content strategy success.
You could use a third party service to do so, or you could simply keep your professional account and switch back once you see how Instagram music works on a personal account.
Either way, if you do decide to switch to a personal account, make sure you note your current Instagram insights so that you don’t lose out on valuable data while you’re testing this “no results found” on Instagram music solution.
Ready to switch?
Confirm your choice and you’ll have a personal Instagram account, able to use Instagram music without issue. Go back to your Instagram stories and test it out.
If you’d like to switch back to a professional account at any time, simply follow the same steps and you’re good to go.
Why Can’t I Add Music to My Instagram Story?
You may be having another issue altogether: the music sticker on Instagram doesn’t even appear at all. This can be a disheartening experience, but there are some reasons you may be having the issue.
If you don’t have the music sticker on Instagram, it could be because you live in a country that doesn’t offer the feature. Music is enabled for use on Instagram in over 90 countries, but you may find yourself in one that hasn’t enabled it yet.
The reason for this is because Instagram complies adherently to strict copyright laws, so in some countries it is disabled.
Another reason that you may not have the sticker is that your app is out of date. Make sure that you upgrade to the most recent version of the Instagram app if you want to use music on Instagram.
Finally, if you still haven’t found the feature, you may consider deleting your Instagram account and reinstalling. Sometimes the Instagram app has some glitches, and reinstalling could very well solve the issue altogether.
If after all of the solutions and reasons offered in this article you still can’t get your Instagram music to work, you may consider reaching out to Instagram directly to see if there’s anything that they can help you with in terms of troubleshooting.
