Computer Science Education Week (#CSEdWeek) is Dec. 4-10!
#CSEdWeek is an annual effort
dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take interest in computer science.
Before becoming Deputy Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, I was the principal of the HS of Telecommunications Arts & Technology in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, one of the founding schools in the Software Engineering Pilot (SEP). SEP laid the foundation for Computer Science for All. A big thrill for me as a school leader was exploring new ways that learning can happen for our students and for our teachers.
Now, it is thrilling to see this opportunity being expanded to our entire City. Through Computer Science for All, New York City will guarantee that every single student in our schools has the opportunity to learn computer science.
During CSEdWeek in New York City, schools will engage their students in computer science education by hosting an #HourofCode, a hackathon, and/or a variety of other activities. Students will work individually or in groups to solve problems, unleashing their creativity, and engaging them as critical and computational thinkers. These are essential skills students need to be successful in high school, college, and careers in the 21st century.
Share why you love computer science using #CSforAllNYC, #CSEdWeek, and tag @NYCSchools!
