Intersex Awareness Day on October 26 marks the first public demonstration by intersex people in North America. It took place on October 26, 1996 in Boston, Massachusetts outside a conference of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Activists from the Intersex Society of North America (ISNA) took part with allies from Transexual Menace.Today, a wave of new initiatives are firmly rooted and taking place all over the world. We are seeing great strides being made at all levels. From young people, and adults alike, feeling more brave to pronounce they are intersex to the recent groundbreaking law in Malta--making it the first country in the world to ban surgery on intersex infants!
We're intersex people and activists passionate about our community's quest for human rights, bodily autonomy and justice and we need YOUR help making #IntersexStories, NOT surgeries, trend worldwide on Intersex Awareness Day 2015!
