Turn to the person to your left. How about the man or woman on your right? If neither of them have high blood pressure, chances are YOU do.
68 million - that's one in three - American adults have high blood pressure. Sadly, less than half have the disease under control and nearly 20% don't even know they have it.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to other serious and sometimes fatal health problems, including heart attack, stroke, and heart failure.
That's why Measure Up/Pressure Down, a national blood pressure campaign, is joining forces with 150 medical groups and health systems, partners (like the American Heart Association, American Kidney Fund, Million Hearts, and WomenHeart), and sponsors.
Together, we're raising awareness of high blood pressure, its risk factors, and how to control the disease with lifestyle changes and medication use.
We hope this Thunderclap will teach you and your loved ones about blood pressure control - and maybe even save a life.
Why May 15? Our Measure Up/Pressure Down National Day of Action: Roll Up Your Sleeves! is on May 15, 2014 and our supporters are each taking an "action" to improve blood pressure control. We hope your "action" will be joining our Thunderclap to spread the word.
