by Gaza's Ark category: Cause
Palestinians have internationally-recognized rights to the freedom of movement, travel and trade. The Israeli blockade violates these rights and has created a humanitarian situation of the most dire sort.
The people of Gaza need to be free. They need trade, not aid. That's why Gaza's Ark is preparing to challenge the blockage by sailing a boat carrying Palestinian export products from the port of Gaza.
You can help this effort by joining human rights activists Noam Chomsky, Mairead Maguire, and Alice Walker in signing our petition urging the UN to take action to end the siege of Gaza!
Our petition urges the UN and other governments to:
• do everything in their power to press Israel to lift all restrictions on the freedom of movement and trade imposed on Palestinians, including allowing the internationally owned Gaza's Ark to sail safely from Gaza without obstacles;
• demand that Israeli authorities respect the full territorial waters of Palestine, including the right of Palestinians to fish at least 20 nautical miles from the coast of Gaza and safely access all their lands, to conduct other peaceful activities throughout their entire economic zone, and to freely access international waters as other coastal nations do;
• call for the immediate return of all boats seized by Israel, both Palestinian fishing boats from Gaza, and all the vessels from international solidarity sailings to challenge the blockade, and for payment of full financial compensation to owners for the extended loss of use of their boats and equipment.
Sign our petition and help spread the word by joining our Thunderclap!
Gaza’s Ark is a joint initiative by Palestinians in Gaza, including individuals from the Palestine Sailing Federation and the Fishermen’s Solidarity Campaign among others, and international solidarity activists, including Free Gaza Australia, the Canadian Boat to Gaza, and Americans affiliated with the organizing committees for the US Boat to Gaza and the Gaza Freedom March. Gaza's Ark is part of the ongoing international Freedom Flotilla Coalition challenging the illegal and inhumane Israeli blockade of Gaza.
