MONARCH has been a long time coming. It was the most difficult of my books to write, and there's more than one reason for that. I think the most important reason is that quality takes time.
So, I listened to some really great music and allowed the story to unfold in my imagination. I've got a great inspiration playlist for Monarch on Spotify. But one song, When the World Stops Spinning, encapsulates not only Monarch, but the whole trilogy. In fact, this song is the official theme song for Monarch. The awesomely talented Kyler England gave me permission to use this song for the book trailer, which is still in production.
Another reason it was so difficult is that tying up all those loose ends, and answering all of those questions from the first two books, took a lot of thought and daydreaming. It’s one thing for the author to know how the story goes. But when it comes down to putting it all into words … well, that’s a whole other story! It takes time to weave and braid the story into a beautiful tapestry. And that’s the way I see Monarch – as a beautiful tapestry gleaming with golden threads formed from the tears of joy and pain of my characters.
Monarch was written while I was recovering from major surgery. It was a long and grueling recovery, and I think some of that battle shows up in the storyline. At first, I tried to mask it. But my characters refused to allow me to do that, because they’re fighting their own battles. And so I fought mine while they fought theirs. We cried together, we nursed our wounds together, we stared death in the face, and most of us came out alive … most of us. Because some secrets kill.
I hope you’ll pick up a copy of Monarch and join my characters in a story, which takes them from their cozy Texas home town to deep into the jungles of Brazil. You’ll meet some new characters, too, and they’re … let’s just say … out of this world!
Belle was raised in deep East Texas. She now resides somewhere north of Houston, Texas in a small inconsequential town with the smallest, most inconsequential name. There, in the shady reaches of the pines, elms, and oaks, she daydreams adventures and secrets she weaves throughout her stories. She’s the author of CICADA, FIREFLY, and MONARCH, a Young Adult/New Adult cross-over trilogy with excellent reviews. She studied literature and history at University of Houston where Beowulf, Shakespeare’s works, and the history of the Vikings were her favorite topics. Belle is positive her readers and fans are the best in the universe.
