Humanitarian Aid to Iraq!

Join our Summer of Peace. Let's start a new conversation about Iraq and the future of US-Iraqi relations. It's time to start talking about what a long-term strategy for peace looks like, and what part we can each play to promote peace and humanitarian relief for war-affected Iraqis.

More than a year and a half after the US military withdrawal from Iraq, Iraqis are facing the worst violence since the country's sectarian war of 2006 and 2007. Since April, waves of car bombs and other sectarian attacks targeting civilians have killed thousands. The Syrian civil war and the Iraqi government’s deadly crackdown on Sunni protests are major drivers of the escalating violence and political tensions in Iraq.

As the lead country that started the war in Iraq, the US has a moral responsibility to show global leadership in helping to end it.

While the situation demands attention, Washington is moving in the opposite direction. After slashing U.S. aid to Iraq following the troop withdrawal, President Obama is now proposing a further cut of 55%, including reductions ranging from 70% to 95% in U.S. funding for Iraqi peacebuilding, human rights, and civil society.

It is time to put peace in Iraq back on the agenda in Washington.

Stand with us in urging President Obama and Congress to do more to support peace in Iraq and strengthen humanitarian assistance to Iraqis and others fleeing violence. Sign our petition today: http://chn.ge/100y3sJ
