In 2014, two women met on Twitter. They both lived with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and worked hard to maintain their physical health to keep working. As the two learned more about one another, they found themselves reaching out to the other for guidance and encouragement with some of the common (and not so common) comorbid conditions. The two spoke about doctors, current research studies, conferences, the EDS communities, their families, and business. It was somewhere between the hundreds of hours spent on the phone a little idea about a book sharing good-news stories was planted as each person we encountered had a story to tell.
Through summer and fall, the women discussed the ins and outs of the publishing industry, business plans, and formed a partnership. It was in that partnership where Our Stories of Strength was born.
Kendra Neilsen Myles and Mysti Reutlinger each bring great strengths to the table that compliment this project including Kendra’s savvy business sense, a degree in public health, passion for living life well, and dedicated service to the Ehlers-Danlos community through volunteer work with EDNF blended exceptionally well with Mysti’s experience in the publishing industry as both an Author and Editor, Web tech, and insatiable desire to provide a voice to those living with chronic illness.
Both Mysti and Kendra have found themselves engaged in many conversations with thousands of others living with chronic health conditions who cherish hearing stories of how people can thrive while managing the nuances of this lifestyle. At the heart of Our Stories of Strength, Kendra and Mysti believe that every person’s story is important, but many voices makes us stronger together.
