Where They Stand

Where do the candidates in your riding stand on making every vote count?

In 2011, a single party with 39.6% of the popular vote was handed 54% of the seats and 100% of the power. Seven million Canadian voters cast ballots which elected no-one.

We need to elect 170 MPs committed to implementing a more proportional voting system. This is the best chance we've ever had to do it!

Fair Vote Canada asked candidates in every riding in Canada whether they will commit to advocating for and voting to implement a proportional system in time for the 2019 election. What did your local candidates say? What do the party platforms say? Help us tell Canadians before they vote!

  • Support our Thunderclap to Help Canadians Navigate the Government's Survey!

    December 9, 2016
Hello Fair Vote Canada supporters on Thunderclap! Thank you so much for supporting our "Where they Stand" Thunderclap during the 2015 election.

I really hope you will help us again now by joining our new Thunderclap sharing our guide to the government's survey on electoral reform! Here is the link to join!

The government is inviting all Canadians to fill out a survey on democratic reform between December 1 and December 31, 2016. They have mailed postcards to 13 million homes directing them to a website with their survey.

There are serious problems with this survey. The Minister ignored the requests of Fair Vote Canada to include a straightforward question on proportional representation. She ignored the request of the all-party committee on Electoral Reform to include their questions on voting systems. Many of the questions in this survey are misleading.

In response we have created a guide to the survey at www.mycanadiandemocracy.ca

Help us reach hundreds of thousands of Canadians with Fair Vote Canada's primer on the tricks, traps and ways they can support proportional representation in the survey and encourage Canadians to make their voices heard!

  • Hashtag Correction and Request

    September 1, 2015
Hi everyone! Despite having two proofreaders, we goofed! The hashtag for the tweet should be #elxn42. Until 11:30 AM EST on September 1, the hashtag had two letters mixed up (the x and l).
I have changed it, so anyone who joined the Thunderclap anytime after Sept 1 at 11:30 AM EST will have the correct hashtag go out with their tweet - that's most of you! But those who joined before that will have the incorrect hashtag.
IF you joined the Thunderclap before 11:30 AM EST on September 1, an option is to go to the page, opt out of the Thunderclap, then rejoin. When you rejoin, your tweet will have the correct hashtag.
Thanks for supporting Make Every Vote Count 2015!
