A record number of women are running for seats in the US House and
Today women are only 17% of Congress.
We say, 20% in 2012.
"Let's accelerate the pace of progress," says Mary Hughes, founder and director of The 2012 Project, a nonpartisan campaign of Rutgers' Center for American Women and Politics to increase the number of women in Congress and state legislatures this year.
To reach 20%, 107 women would have to win election to the House and Senate. That would mean the largest rate of growth since 1992, known widely as the "Year of the Woman."
