Blue Sharks. Why No Limits?

This Friday at 9pm on ITV, "Britain's Sharks" will bring UK audiences an extraordinary view of Blue Sharks in British seas.  We want to use this event to stimulate support for the urgent need to impose limits on the fishing of Blue Shark and other species in the Atlantic.

We are asking the crowd to help us take the Shark Trust's urgent and vital No Limits? campaign to Europe.  To create a series of Pop-Up Blue Shark events in European cities.  To gain the support and boost the political will to end uncontrolled shark fishing in Europe and beyond.

What is No Limits?

Blue Sharks, like too many other shark species, continue to be fished without catch limits.  This means that shark fisheries are not being adequately controlled to allow for sustainable management.  Sustainable seafood is part of our everyday life now yet currently sharks remain outside of the drive for sustainable futures.

Europe is a major shark fishing power.  We have asked the people of the UK to support us and we have had an overwhelming response.  We need to get the same commitment from citizens across Europe to demonstrate support for the EU in taking a lead in establishing sustainability for global shark fisheries.

We need to act fast and we need to work smart.  No Limits? has the attention of the public, the politicians and the industry.  Now is the time to make it count.

Please help us spread the word and join our crowdfunding effort at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/sharktrust

  • Thank You

    March 25, 2016
With a reach of 11.69million people our Thunderclap has hit the social media channels.  Now we wait to see the impact on our Crowdfunder campaign.

Thank you to everyone that took the time to sign up and lend us their voice.  It means a lot to us that so many people are talking about the need for sensible management of shark fisheries.

Please, please keep sharing our work and support us in any way you can.  Share the Crowdfunder and help us get the pledges we need to get the European campaign off the ground.

Join us, follow us, like us.  Our supporters give us a voice to speak up for sharks.

    Thank you...
  • Keep building the crowd...

    March 24, 2016
Our Thunderclap tomorrow is looking really good - we are now happily looking at a reach of nearly 12 million.  That's a huge number of people to potentially connect with our message.

This massive number, remember, is still at the lower end of the estimated 10-20 million Blue Sharks landed each year around the world. We need to succeed in our goal of ending uncontrolled shark fishing and this can be a big step forward.

We'd like to issue one more challenge to those of you that have lent us your voice for Friday night.  Can we get our reach any higher?  How far can the ripples from this campaign spread. You've already shown that you care enough to help out, what more can you do?

Our crowdfunder is now live - if you're inspired by the amazing response to this Thunderclap, why not stick around and join the crowd that is already pledging to help us drive change for sharks.

  • Let's RAISE OUR VOICE!

    March 23, 2016
We've hit our target with two days to go - we will be speaking with one voice on Friday night.  A great start for our campaign but there's no time to rest up now...

The more people we can get to join us in the next 48 hours, the louder our voice becomes.

If you've signed up already then please keep talking about it and recruit your friends and networks to sign up too.

Share the link and lets get that reach past 5 million http://thndr.me/3MqHlS

Thanks to all our Patrons, partners and supporters across the world.
  • Building up Quickly

    March 23, 2016
Great start to our Thunderclap campaign - after 24 hours we are 78% of the way to our target of 100 supporters and we have a reach of nearly 700,000 for our post on Friday night.

Thanks to everyone that has signed up so far - here is the next challenge:

Let's assume we are going to reach our target and the Thunderclap will happen on Friday night.  Let's make sure that as many people as possible get involved and the message reaches way over 1,000,000 people.

Please help us just a little bit more.  Share with your friends. Encourage anyone that you know who has a Facebook or Twitter account to join the Thunderclap.  Social media can be a great tool for change - let's make it work for Blue Sharks and for our campaign.  If everyone gets one more person to join then we'll exceed all our expectations.  Tweet, email, message, even phone someone if you have to!
