#FlywithIBD

Air travel can be stressful for people living with inflammatory bowel disease* (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) mainly because of lack of appropriate meals.

Many patients with IBD and IBS have restrictive dietary requirements and failure to comply with these requirements may lead to serious relapses of their disease, which can severely impact their health.

Airlines can help people with these conditions by doing four simple things:

  1. Provide greater details on ingredients of any food offered on flight online at least 48 hours prior to the flight

  2. For ingredients to be labelled on individual in-flight products and to have products individually wrapped

  3. Provide greater choice with multiple allergy/intolerance menu options for all IBS/IBD passengers

  4. Automatic seat prioritization next to WC for passengers who have selected an IBD meal option

Join the cause by urging airlines to make these four simple changes to support traveller with IBD and IBS.

*IBD is a group of inflammatory conditions of the colon and small intestine.

For many patients across the world their health continues to be impacted by diseases where there are no or ineffective treatment options. At Takeda we are taking action to address this need by discovering and developing treatments that help patients.

One of Takeda’s focus therapeutic areas is gastroenterology. Many of our patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often tell us air travel can be stressful and cause anxiety. This is why we want to raise awareness of this important issue.
