by Hack Harassment category: Technology
Online harassment has become a pervasive and often vicious problem with real-life repercussions. Forty percent of Internet users have personally experienced online harassment, and 73 percent have witnessed it occur to others. While the severity of the harassment varies, nearly a third of those who have experienced it report fearing for their lives. The internet is an incredibly powerful tool that has transformed the global economy and revolutionized how millions communicate, collaborate, and express themselves. But online harassment threatens to derail that potential. As a part of our commitment to raise awareness of this problem and foster collaboration to create real solutions, we are calling on industry professionals, advocates, thought leaders, and users to pledge to help us hack harassment. Online harassment is hackable and, by working together, we have the opportunity to promote safer, more inclusive online experiences for everyone. That’s why Intel, Vox Media, Re/code, and Born This Way Foundation are inviting leaders and experts from the technology and media industries, non-profits organizations, and academia to join members of online communities in helping to Hack Harassment. Help us Hack Harassment by taking the pledge! The link for the pledge is not live yet, as we will be launching it during CodeCon on June 1st - with help from this Thunderclap!
