Big Bottom Blues is my first book and was extremely difficult for me to write. It took me over 40 years to muster up the courage to tell my story but felt it necessary to do so. I made the decision to write about my sexual abuse in order to help others come out of their *dark closets*. Like so many women, particularly women of color, I've endured quite a bit in my life, but I believe its in our 'getting back up' that gives us the strength to carry on! It's in our standing strong and firm in the face of hardships that we empower others to do the same.
I no longer wanted to be a prisoner of my past; I no longer wanted to live my life in shame and guilt for having been raped; I no longer wanted to be a victim, but a Victor! I took my life and power back! This book is for every woman, man and child who has been affected by childhood sexual abuse, particularly by the hands of a family member. This book serves to give courage, strength and hope to the survivors who now, in their adult years, still suffer. I flipped my trauma on its head and now use it as a tool to help and inspire those who are too afraid to tell and share their horrors.
