#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of- year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.
Created in 2012 by 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back— #GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. A team of influencers and founding partners joined forces—collaborating across sectors, offering expertise and working tirelessly—to launch #GivingTuesday and have continued to shape, grow and strengthen the movement.
#GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners—nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals—to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness.
As a global movement, #GivingTuesday unites countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another. 40,000+ PARTNERS IN 71 COUNTRIES including small businesses, nonprofits, government agencies and major corporations are involved with #GivingTuesday.
#GivingTuesday Outreach to Veterans Grants:
ADTA’s #GivingTuesday grants focus on expanding awareness, education, access and services for veterans struggling to cope with anxiety, PTSD, and depression. Through the development of new dance/movement therapy programs across the country, along with the dissemination of educational materials for both veterans and service providers, the objective of the grants is to communicate the value of dance/movement therapy as an instrumental treatment options for veterans struggling with mental health issues. The focus on ADTA #GivingTuesday grants will change each year in order to better serve the diversity of our communities.
ADTA's #GivingTuesday project is made possible by the Marian Chace Foundation.
Founded in 1966, the American Dance Therapy Association is the only U.S. organization dedicated to the profession of dance/movement therapy.
