Let me introduce myself. My name is Patrick from the Netherlands. October 5th 2012 my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A death penalty. Just 37 days later he died at november 10th 2012. The most memorable 37 days in my life.
During those 37 days my father and I started the Vakjoe!* (Fuck you phonetic written and spoken in Dutch*) movement at Facebook. We requested family & friends to raise their middle finger and say Vakjoe!against cancer out of envy, powerlessness, frustration, sympathy and compassion with my father.
Since august 2015 Vakjoe!is officially a non-profit foundation with over 5000 supporters who all show their sympathy to people fighting cancer. Share their story or honor and remember those who lost the battle. They all say Vakjoe!against cancer.
Vakjoe’s goal is to encourage people to remain positive and stop complaining/wining about trivia as others struggle with their "Cancer Battle". My father remained positive and smiled throughout. Whilst the finger may not be politically correct and mostly seen as a obscene gesture for us it symbolises an act of defiance by the person with cancer (to both the disease and healthy people's insignificant gripes). Therefor we say Vakjoe!(Fuck you) against cancer.
The Vakjoe!foundation tries to help individuals fighting cancer and survivors in any way prefered with your donations.
Don't take it personal. We say Vakjoe!against cancer. I thank you in regard for understanding what Vakjoe!stands for.
