February is Black History Month – and it’s your chance to make the month
even more meaningful by joining
the Be The Match Registry® as a potential
African American patients with sickle cell anemia or blood cancers need more African American marrow donors. That’s because people are more likely to match donors who share their ethnic background—and there aren’t enough African American volunteer donors on the registry. Another challenge: African Americans have the most diverse tissue types of any ethnic group.
Your unique ethnic history could be someone’s lifesaving cure. Someone like Shaunise.
Shaunise has aplastic anemia and needs a transplant. Doctors continue to search for a donor but need more African Americans to step up and join the marrow donor registry for her and others.
It only takes a few minutes and a swab of your cheek to join the Be The Match Registry. If you are asked to donate, you could be the only one on a registry of millions who can save someone’s life.
