From Sendai to Cancun

In March 2015, the international community adopted the 15-year Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the world's most wide-ranging blueprint to date for tackling the impacts of natural and human-induced hazards.

Over the past two years, countries have been transforming the commitments made at the Sendai conference in Japan into concrete action. In May, they will gather at the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Cancun, Mexico, to spotlight the successes so far and what remains to be done to make the world a safer and more resilient place.
