by Open Primaries category: Politics
Even after millions of Americans expressed outrage over the unfair 2016 presidential primaries -- which locked 26.3 million voters out of the process -- the parties have done nothing to address their voters' concerns.
With both parties set to select new chairs, Open Primaries has been busy pressuring the incoming leaders of the RNC and DNC to respond to the will of the people, and open the primaries in every state. Nearly 60,000 Americans have already signed their petition.
The DNC, in particular, seems wedded to the status quo, of disempowering voters and prioritizing the interests of party elites, even though the vast majority of its voters support opening up the system and giving more power to the people. They select a new chair this weekend. Let's make sure they hear the people before then.
2016 was a referendum on establishment politics. Both parties need to wake up and commit to the change that their voters are calling for.
Open Primaries is a movement of diverse Americans who believe in a simple, yet radical idea: no American should be required to join a political party to exercise their right to vote.
