DID YOU KNOW boys as young as 10 yrs old, in Cote D'Ivoire, are trafficked from neighbouring countries to pick and harvest Cocoa beans?
We think all chocolate companies have a responsibility to seriously address the key issues that contribute to children being trafficked to work on cocoa farms and prevent the physical, emotional and sexual abuse these children are subjected to.
Since 2009, STOP THE TRAFFIK has been asking Darrell Lea to take steps in relation to its chocolate supply chains, to ensure child labour and human trafficking are addressed. We are yet to even agree to a meeting.
We are asking them take the following initial steps,
- Publicly state on their website their sustainability policy and practices which contribute to ending human trafficking and child labour in the cocoa supply chain.
- Release a Code of Conduct requiring suppliers of cocoa products to comply with the policy and practices and ensure they are taking real steps to implement the policy.
Together we can STOP THE TRAFFIK,
