About Barbara Boxer:
As a four-term United States Senator, Barbara Boxer changed the landscape of out-of-school time for millions of children. A champion of quality public education, Senator Boxer wrote landmark legislation establishing the first-ever federal funding for afterschool programs and continued to work to expand these programs nationwide as chair of the Senate Afterschool Caucus.
She has wholeheartedly served her country, its educators, and youth. BOOST Collaborative, in partnership with the Afterschool Alliance, awards Boxer the OSTI (Out-of-School Time Innovations) Champion Award at the 10th Annual BOOST Conference April 19, 2017.
The Goal of this Thunderclap?
To bring our field together and celebrate Senator Boxer's legacy & her many impactful years of public service. We also aim to raise awareness of the importance of afterschool programs and protect federal funding for 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC).
What's at stake?
President Trump’s budget calls for eliminating funding for local afterschool and summer programs. It’s now up to Congress to counter the cut—or execute it and eliminate programs relied on by families across the nation to keep kids safe and engaged. Nearly two million children and families would be left without reliable afterschool choices.
20 million families want and need more afterschool and summer learning opportunities. For every child in a program, two are waiting to get in. Closing 10,000+ afterschool programs will hurt families and children in every part of the country.
You can make a difference: call on Congress to protect funding for afterschool and summer learning programs. Find and write your legislators here.
The BOOST Collaborative is a unique, purpose-driven organization committed to supporting those serving youth in the out-of-school time hours by providing quality professional development, opportunities for networking & partnerships, and leadership training. Together, we make a difference!
