GDAMS 2017

Each year, the Global Day of Action on Military Spending movement is organized around the world creating awareness for the excessive amount spent by governments on military means.

IPB wants to spread a message that affects each person in this world. Let us tell the governments of the world to fund the United Nations.

Did you know that according to OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), just over 1% of military spending could meet the amount requested by the UN for its Humanitarian programs?

The theme of this year's GDAMS is the contrast between the high levels of government spending on the military, and the urgent unmet needs of the humanitarian sector. For the former, some $1680 billion is made available; for the latter, the whole international community struggles to reach a mere $20 billion.

Securing additional funding for humanitarian work today is more vital than ever. Let's move the money! #WELFARENOTWARFARE

This year, the GDAMS movement will take place from April 18th to April 28th, the International Peace Bureau and its members will organize events all around the world (Australia,Colombia, Kenya, New Zeland, Nigeria, Philippines, USA, UK...).

Not everyone will be able to participate physically one of these countries, but social media allows us to support and spread the campaign.

Sign up to call for reducing the level of financial and intellectual resources devoted to the military system and use the hashtags #WELFARENOTWARFARE #GDAMS

The Global Campaign on Military Spending (GCOMS) is an international campaign founded in December 2014 and promoted by the International Peace Bureau. The aim of the campaign is to push governments to invest money in the sectors of health, education, employment and climate change rather than military. The GCOMS also incorporates the Global Day of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS), which is now in its 7th year.
