by National Golf Month category: Event
The focus of this year’s National Golf Month is on growing female participation. It is essential for the economic health and reputation of the sport that it encourages more women to get onto the nation’s golf courses, driving ranges and pro shops.
The gender mix of golfers in most other European countries underlines how the sport in the UK can appeal to both men and women. According to research, only around 15% of UK golfers are female compared to 25% across the whole of Europe and 35% in countries such as Germany, Austria and Slovenia. The evidence further suggests that increasing the number of female participants also benefits the wider player-base by encouraging more families to take up the sport.
Golf is one of the few sports in which men and women can compete alongside each other, which is something that it should be celebrating.
Whether you want to play with your children, your partners or your friends, it’s an excellent activity anyone can enjoy this May.
Opportunities to get involved up and down the country in May have been posted on nationalgolfmonth.com. Join the Thunderclap and help #GirlsGetGolfing!
