by The HS Trust category: Health
Thousands of people around the world are currently suffering with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), many people don't even know it, as it is often misdiagnosed, misunderstood or simply too embarrassing to talk about.
During HS Awareness Week 2017, we want to bring HS out in the open, and get everyone talking about this chronic, debilitating skin condition.
HS is a chronic skin disease, which appears as a boil like abscess in the apocrine gland-bearing areas, such as the armpits, breasts and groin. This recurrent inflammatory, and often painful disease is often overlooked, as not much is known of the actual cause. It is a common misconception among healthcare professions that HS is caused by smoking, obesity or poor cleanliness, this simply isn't the case. HS can be challenging to diagnose, and there can be a significant delay between first symptoms and an accurate diagnosis.
How can you help?
The HS Trust
The HS Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to raising awareness, support and education for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS).
