If November taught us anything, it's that our party no longer has the luxury of only talking to voters in presidential years. Instead, we have to build a long-term, grassroots infrastructure to create the conditions in which Democrats can compete in every race, in every place, every year.
The Summer of Canvass is the first plank of that new strategy. It's a massive, volunteer-led listening canvass that is designed to reach voters in every corner of Washington State, from Ocean Shores to Omak, from Bellingham to Pullman. If we're going to win back voters who flipped to Trump last election, and re-engage Democrats who stayed home (or who have never voted), we need to listen to those folks at their doorsteps and in their communities.
How will we do it? We're going to train hundreds of volunteers to lead listening-based canvasses in their communities. We're going to strengthen our party. We’re going to refresh our voter data. And we’re going to build a new, blue majority in Washington State. We're going to have a lot of fun, make some new friends, and wear out some walking shoes this summer.
So, are you ready to join the #SummerOfCanvass?
