#HIVTestingDay Thunderclap

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day, a day to promote HIV testing and HIV prevention. This year’s theme is Test Your Way. Do it Today. On this day, we unite with federal partners, health departments, community organizations, and individuals to raise awareness about the many ways to test for HIV – in a clinic, through your health care provider, at a testing event, at home, or from a local organization.

More than 1.1 million people aged 13 and older in the United States are living with HIV, and about 1 in 7 do not know they are infected. HIV testing is the only way for those living with undiagnosed HIV to learn their status so they can access HIV care and treatment to stay healthy and keep from passing HIV to their partners.

In addition to supporting this Thunderclap, you can show your support:

Raise Awareness.

• Tell others about local testing events listed at CDC's National HIV Testing Day site.
  
• Share fact sheets on the populations most affected by HIV. Find a full listing of CDC’s HIV fact sheets.
  
• Promote Doing It!, CDC's national HIV testing and prevention campaign designed to motivate all adults to get tested for HIV and know their status.
  
• Share and use this year's hashtag: #HIVTestingDay. CDC has sample social media posts available, or you can:
  o   Amplify CDC’s on-going HIV prevention efforts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter,
  o   Share videos of volunteers, community leaders, and celebrities explaining why they’re getting tested, or
  o   Download posters and other materials.

Take Action.

• Test your way. Do it today. See the list of options above on how to get an HIV test today.
• Hold an event in your community. You can find resources to plan your testing day activities and register your event on the National HIV Testing Day website.
• Use the HIV Risk Reduction Tool, an interactive tool developed for adults that allows users to learn about the risk of getting or transmitting HIV and how to lower that risk.
