#MyHBCUgivebackDay

#MyHBCUgiveback, is a day to remember your Alma mater, honor its legacy and make it stronger than when you left .

We want to start a new tradition of giving on this day, every year. Today, we encourage you to give directly to your HBCU by going to their website and search 'Give'.

Another great option is to give to the HBCU Alumni Alliance which supports more than 100+ HBCUs and includes 50 alumni chapters. All the schools they support are listed on their 'give' page.

This is an initiative between the Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Chapters of the HBCU Alumni Alliance and TRADITION.

ABOUT Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
For more than 150 years, HBCUs have been providing diverse learning environments while producing extraordinary leaders.  Join TRADITION, the Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Chapters of the HBCU Alumni Alliance in showing solidarity in the act of giving and recognizing those who support the mission of our country's HBCUs.

Examples of alumni giving back:

  • Three years ago, Spelman College announced it had exceeded its monetary goal for its 10-year campaign fundraiser, raising a record $157.8 million. With 71% of alumnae making a donation to the campaign, the all-female HBCU raised the largest amount of money in the institution’s history, creating support for scholarships, academic initiatives, and campus renewal. • Through fundraising and donor development initiatives, $65 million has been raised by the Tom Joyner Foundation to support more than 29,000 students attending HBCUS. Source: The Tom Joyner Foundation
  • Inspired by “News One Now” host Roland S. Martin's giving back day, the Virginia State University National Alumni Association has launched its own giving campaign, 1,000 Trojans Giving 100 Dollars. They have received over $50,000 in donations. Source:The Chicago Defender
