Support Hong Kong's Ivory Ban

Hong Kong’s proposed ivory ban will allow the city's ivory traders a further five years – in addition to the 27 they have already had – to sell their ivory stocks. Yet the traders are still calling for compensation. Meanwhile numerous “fresh” illegal shipments to Hong Kong have been intercepted in recent years, the largest to date in July 2017 was over seven tons. Giving ANY value to unsold stockpiles sends the wrong message and would fuel the poaching of Africa's last remaining elephant populations. That's why paying compensation to the traders is a bad idea. Please show your support for the Hong Kong ivory ban – with NO COMPENSATION – ahead of the second Hong Kong Legislative Council Public Hearing on the ivory ban scheduled for September 6, 2017.

  • Victory! Hong Kong Ivory Ban Passes 49 to 4.

    January 31, 2018
A massive thank you to everyone who joined the #SupporHKIvoryBan thunderclap in September. On Wednesday January 31, 2018 the bill was voted on and passed 49 to 4! By August 2018 the import of ivory to Hong Kong and re-export of ivory from Hong Kong will be illegal. By the end of 2021 the buying and selling of ivory within Hong Kong will be illegal. This ban is another watershed moment for elephants, but there is still a long way to go. Please stay actively involved in other pending ivory bans - UK, EU, Taiwan - and protective legislation for other endangered and threatened species. Together we can #SaveTheLastAnimals and the rangers who put their lives on the line to protect them.
