Please support the other World Childless Week Campaign too by following this link
Hello my name is Nicci Fletcher and I am proud to be involved in the first ever World Childless Week which is being held on Facebook from Monday 11th to Sunday 17th September 2017.
There are a couple of “infertility” awareness weeks around the world each year: however, their main focus is on how to improve fertility rather than dealing with the long-term effects of infertility and other causes of being childless-not-by-choice. The aim of World Childless Week is to help support the 1 in 5 people around the world who are childless-not-by-choice (cnbc). Being cnbc can lead to isolation, mental health issues, shame, guilt and can wreak havoc in almost every aspect of a person’s life. It steals identities, destroys self-confidence and dims the light that makes us all unique. In addition, it makes us feel that the rest of the world (ie the fertile world) is a hostile place where people don't understand or value us. The focus of the week is on childless-not-by-choice because choosing to remain childfree is something totally different.
World Childless Week aims to help people who are struggling to come to terms with their childless status realise that they are not alone and that there is support out there to help. It also aims to raise awareness in the wider community about what it is really like to long for a child and yet be denied that blessing for one reason or another.
Monday 11th September: “Childless in …..” when we will be sharing photographs and articles from people around the world who are childless-not-by-choice.
Tuesday 12th September: “Facts and Figures” including personal stories that will bring some of the facts and figures to life.
Wednesday 13th September: “Word from our hearts” this year will be focusing on writing emotional letters addressed to the “reason” that we are childless. There will also be a webinar explaining about the healing benefits of writing these types of letters
Thursday 14th September: “The innocent words and comments that hurt” this year focusing on four of the most frequent comments we have to deal with. They’ll be a selection of articles sharing personal stories plus a panel interview where I’ll be discussing these comments with the Week’s creator Stephanie Phillips.
Friday 15th September: “We are whole and we are worthy” enables us to celebrate the childless people, past and present, who have made their mark on the world. We’ll also be talking about disenfranchised grief.
Saturday 16th September: “Why is the 16th September significant?” is when the creator of World Childless Week will explain why she focused the week around this particular date and the impact it has on us.
Sunday 17th September: “Finding support and moving forward” finds us focusing on being positive about the future. There’ll be information about where to find support and a webinar on how to take “the first steps towards emotional healing”.
How can you help?
In a nutshell support both of our Thunderclap Campaigns. Not sure what Thunderclap is or how it works? Here's a quick explanation ...
Thunderclap is a tool that allows a single message to be broadcast simultaneously across your social networks.
The message details, time and date are preset by the creator of the Thunderclap Campaign.
All you have to do is agree to participate, sign up with your Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr accounts, then sit back and relax.
This is a one-off post to your timeline and Thunderclap will not send messages to your friends or followers.
Finally, in Facebook “like” the World Childless Week page and share it wherever possible. (insert link) and on Twitter follow @childlessvoice
Steps to sign up and support World Childless Week
1. Decide which social media you want to
use to support the campaign. You can
choose more than one!
2. Add a personal message to the post/tweet that will be sent out on behalf of the campaign. This is not mandatory.
3. Share the link to this page to encourage
other people to support the campaign. We
need at least 100 supporters otherwise the campaign doesn’t run.
4. If you haven’t already supported the other campaign we are running reminding people of the start date please search for WorldChildlessWeek and support that one too.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to connecting with you during World Childless Week.
