Social Saturday 2017

October 14th is Social Saturday, the national day to celebrate and buy from social enterprise - businesses which use trade to tackle social and environmental problems.

It’s about putting social enterprises on the map and getting more people, businesses and public bodies talking about and buying from them.

There are going to be events throughout the country from market stalls and open days to festivals and football tournaments – all of which will be spreading the message that when you buy from social enterprises, everyone profits.

We want our Buy Social message to reach as wide an audience as possible, and to do this we’re going to need your help.

Let’s get #SocialSaturday2017 trending on Twitter and get people to make one small change, one BIG impact on Social Saturday!

More about social enterprises and the Buy Social campaign

Social enterprises are businesses that re-invest or donate their profits to meet a social mission. There are nearly 80,000 in the UK, contributing £24 billion to the economy and employing nearly a million people. Whether it’s creating employment opportunities for people marginalised from the job market through disadvantage or disability, funding development projects overseas or strengthening local economies at home – there are social enterprises operating in nearly every sector and chances are there will be one near you.

Social Enterprise UK’s Buy Social campaign aims to build the markets for social enterprises amongst consumers as well as the public and private sectors. Every spending decision a business, a public body or an ordinary consumer makes has a social and environmental impact – when you buy from a social enterprise you can help make that a positive one.
