Between 29 October and 17 November 2017 head chefs from 14 famous restaurants from cities around the world will spend a week cooking in Tel Aviv as part of a PR initiative to bring international prestige to Israel’s culinary scene. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs is flying the chefs to Israel and the initiative is sponsored by Dan Hotels, a chain complicit in Israel’s war crimes with a branch built on stolen Palestinian land in occupied East Jerusalem.
The initiative is even more tasteless as the festival features a number of farm-to-table restaurants at a time when Israeli settlers ramp up attacks against Palestinian families gathering for the annual olive harvest and the Israeli army continues to impose a cruel siege on Gaza, pushing unemployment to 42 per cent - the highest rate in the world.
We are only days away from the event. Send a principled appeal on social media calling on chefs/restaurants to cancel their participation.
The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) was initiated in 2004 to contribute to the struggle for Palestinian freedom, justice and equality. PACBI advocates for the boycott of Israeli academic and cultural institutions, given their deep and persistent complicity in Israel’s denial of Palestinian rights as stipulated in international law.
