TO HOME is shining a light on the majority of homelessness that is hard to
see and less well known – children in neighborhood schools, workers in local
businesses, and families spending their nights doubled-up with friends,
sleeping in cars or in short-stay motels. Did you know that nearly half of the
people in Metro Denver who are homeless are families and children? Across
Colorado there are nearly 25,000 school-aged children without a safe, stable
place to call home – an increase of more than 300% over the past decade.
TO HOME offers an easy way for everyone to learn more and help make a meaningful
difference in addressing homelessness – not through financial donations, but by
raising your voice to say this matters, finding opportunities to volunteer or
make donations, and encouraging and supporting community leaders in pursuing
add your name to the CLOSE TO HOME pledge to say you believe we can
become a community where everyone has a safe place to call home. We will share
ideas about additional actions you can take, from Facebook posts to share, to
community volunteer opportunities and more. We’ll also tell our community
leaders about the increasing number of resident calling for solutions to
#ClosetoHomeCO and #MakeHomelessnessHistory!
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is November 11 – 19, 2017. Each year
this designated week offers a targeted opportunity for people across the United
States to learn more about the challenges and realities of families and
individuals who face hunger and homelessness. Join us in raising your voice to
say you believe we can become a community, a state and a country where everyone
has a safe place to call home.
