Over 30% of children and young people have experienced bullying in the last year alone. This Anti-Bullying Week 2017, Monday 13th – Friday 17th November, and beyond we working with Andy Day and the Odd Socks calling on to celebrate what makes us all different and all equal. We are asking schools and families to raise money for the Anti-Bullying Alliance by wearing your #OddSocks on the first day of #AntiBullyingWeek (13th November).
We’ve achieved so much, but there’s a long way to go
Each year Anti-Bullying Week reaches at least 75% of schools – that works out to 6 million pupils in England. So much work is being done by schools across the country to reduce bullying, however we know some groups are still more likely to experience it than others. We want young people to feel free to be themselves without fear of bullying. That’s why we want you to get involved in Odd Socks Day for Anti-Bullying Week.
Most importantly, Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity for children to express themselves and appreciate individuality. There is no pressure on the children to wear the latest fashion or for parents to buy expensive costumes. All they have to do to take part is wear odd socks to school, it couldn’t be simpler!
If you can’t do the Monday of Anti-Bullying Week, any day in the week would be fine (or the whole week!). We would like to invite participating children to make a £1 donation to support the Anti-Bullying Alliance.
Win a visit from Andy Day to your school!
During Anti-Bullying Week we will be running an exciting competition for schools. The winning school will receive a visit from Andy and the Odd Socks themselves! We would like schools to send us a photo or video that best captures how the school participated in Odd Socks Day. To enter:
· Share your odd socks day on Twitter with us via photo or video
· Use the hash tags #AntiBullyingWeek and #OddSocks
· Tweet to us in Anti-Bullying Week between 13th – 17th November
Andy and the Odd Socks will select the winning
school (particularly looking for the most creative entries) on the 20th
November and we will be in touch to arrange the visit. Terms and conditions are on our website.
