In the majority of hospitals, radiologists are vital members of the emergency team, in charge of imaging services such as x-ray, MRI and CT. Huge numbers of people are sent to have 'scans' in emergency situations across the world every day, to get an image of their particular problem. Radiologists are the highly trained medical staff responsible for examining those images and making a diagnosis.
Every year, the International Day of Radiology celebrates a different field of radiology, and this year, for IDoR 2017, we are highlighting the essential role that radiologists play in the emergency room, increasing the quality of care and treatment of patients.
By celebrating the International Day of Radiology each year on November 8, we can show the world how important radiology is to healthcare and make sure that it remains a top priority in public health policy.

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) is an apolitical, non-profit organisation dedicated to serving healthcare by supporting scientific research, education and training while striving to improve standards in the practice of radiology. It is the world’s biggest community of radiologists with more than 73,000 members around the globe. Learn more at myESR.org.
The ESR is a co-organiser of the International Day of Radiology, along with the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR).
