World Diabetes Day

188,000 people in Wales are living with diabetes; the highest prevalence in Europe. 90% of these are estimated to have Type 2 diabetes.

Another 57,000 people already have Type 2 diabetes, but are yet to be diagnosed. And an enormous 540,000 of us are believed to be at risk of developing the condition in the future.

If untreated or poorly managed, Type 2 diabetes can lead to amputation, blindness, heart attack and stroke.

The good news? There are things you can do to reduce your risk of developing it. In fact, 3 in 5 cases of Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by eating well, staying active and maintaining a healthy weight.

On World Diabetes Day, watch this film by Pocket Medic to learn more about your risk - and what you can do to reduce it.

The Welsh Endocrine and Diabetes Society (WEDS) was established to provide an educational forum for Specialists delivering Diabetes and Endocrinology services for the people of Wales. It has grown and evolved to run biannual conferences for Specialists, their trainees and multidisciplinary teams. It also organises Specialist training and acts in advisory capacity to a number of national organisations.
