Chickens raised for Olive Garden endure some of the worst factory farm abuses. They are bred to grow unnaturally large at such rapid rates that they suffer painful and debilitating injuries. They are crammed by the thousands in filthy, barren sheds. At only 6 weeks old, these chickens are shackled upside down, slit at the throat, and electrocuted.
In April, The Humane League launched an aggressive national campaign demanding that Olive Garden commit to basic animal welfare standards for the chickens in its supply chains. It's time for Olive Garden to follow the lead of major restaurants and commit to meaningful welfare reform.
