On June 1, President Trump announced his intention to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement, which brought the world together to work to cut greenhouse gas emissions and solve the climate crisis devastating our planet. This decision threatens the air we breathe and the water we drink. It threatens our ecosystems and disproportionately affects the most vulnerable people on our planet.
But withdrawing from the Paris Agreement does not represent the will of the American people and cannot stop our progress on climate change. Clean energy continues to boom in the US, and around the world. And since the president’s announcement, 227 cities, 9 states, 1,641 businesses, 315 higher education institutions, and nearly 1 million Americans have committed to uphold the goals set forth in Paris as part of the #WeAreStillIn and #IAmStillIn pledges.
As world leaders gather in Bonn, Germany for the next round of post-Paris climate negotiations at COP 23, it is vital that we show our international partners that this administration isn’t the only voice in America on this issue. If the president won’t lead on climate, the American people will. Join us in standing up for the Paris Agreement goals and tell the world that we’re #StillIn.
Founded by former US Vice President Al Gore, The Climate Reality Project is bringing the world together to solve the climate crisis by creating a healthy and prosperous future powered by clean energy.
