Support Unifor Local 597

It’s been nearly a whole year now since 32 workers in a small Canadian town were locked out by their Kansas State based employer. Just days before Christmas, in December of 2016, Rezaul Chowdhury’s company, D-J Composites put its unionized workers on the street in one of the coldest climates in North America, in Gander, Newfoundland. These workers have walked a picket line outside the small aerospace manufacturing facility for nearly a year.

D-J Composites was even found guilty of bargaining in bad faith by the provincial labour board, which is a serious violation of Canadian employment law. Chowdhury’s company’s idea of negotiating was to freeze or cut wages, gut seniority and try to bust the union.

    Friends,

Thank you! With your help, we have reached our initial goal. One hundred people, including you, signed up to support the locked-out members of Unifor Local 597.

Their union-busting boss, Rezaul Chowdhury, is going to hear your voice on December 20, all the way in Kansas.

But we can do even better.

We increased our goal to 250 people, and need your help once again. That's 250 Tweets and Facebook statuses that will be shared in unison, calling for D-J Composites to end the year-long lock-out and bring these Newfoundlanders in from the cold.

Please share the Thunderclap link today, and call on your friends and networks to also unite with these workers.

For more ways you can help, visit unifor.org/supportlocal597.

    Solidarity!
