What are public accommodations and why do they matter? As the Supreme Court prepares to issue a ruling in the Masterpiece Cakeshop case, the central issue at the heart of the fight for equality for LGBT people is about public accommodations—places of business, public transit, taxi cabs, restaurants—and whether or not they can turn customers away just because of who they are or whom they love.
A new report LGBT Policy Spotlight: Public Accommodations Nondiscrimination Laws provides a comprehensive overview of the patchwork of federal, state, and local protections against discrimination in public spaces. MAP in partnership with the Equality Federation Institute, Freedom for All Americans, and the National Center for Transgender Equality need your help to spread the word about the importance of these laws and what's at stake for LGBT equality.
