Celebrating Women in STEM

Hannah Toulson, Digital Apprentice at the Institute for Apprenticeships, talks to Dr Kate Barclay (Institute Board Member and lead for academic liaison at Pfizer UK), and Sanna Shabir (Civil Engineering Apprentice with Atkins and  Institute Apprentice Panel member), about the importance of STEM subjects and encouraging greater take-up amongst women.

The video is being produced to mark both International Women’s Day and National Apprenticeships Week, and will be available during National Apprenticeship Week (5th - 9th March)

We want to encourage followers across the Apprenticeship Landscape and in STEM industries to promote this fantastic message and raise awareness of both events, as well as promoting STEM subjects as a crucial apprenticeship route for young people.

  • We have produced a shorter version of out Women in STEM video

    April 4, 2018
    Hi supporters,

As promised we have created a shorter version of our Women in STEM video, it comes in at just under three minutes.

You can find the video on our YouTube channel https://youtu.be/h1zB5UhAuv4

We would encourage you to share and use this video both on your websites and social media channels.

    Thank you for your support

  • Thank you for supporting our Women in STEM Thunderclap!

    March 13, 2018
    Hello,

Thank you to everybody who helped us achieve our target of 100 supporters for our Thunderclap. We ended up 118 supporters giving the message a potential reach of 680k people which is fantastic.

You can access the video we created about Women in STEM on YouTube or on our website which also includes more information about apprenticeships in STEM and other related information.

The video also made it in the Evening Standard website in London supporting their article on Women in STEM.

The video ended up being almost 10 minutes long which was a little longer then we originally anticipated but we found it difficult to leave out any of the footage from the inspiration women we talked too. However we recognize that in these days of social media not everyone is willing to watch a 10 minute video so in the coming weeks we will be producing a shorter version of the video along with some smaller soundbites we can share through our social media channels, please follow our Twitter or Linkedin channel for future updates.

Again many thanks for your support

  • Hannah interviews Skills Minister Anne Milton

    March 2, 2018

    Hello supporters,

Thank you for supporting our Thunderclap!

Yesterday we braved the wintry weather to interview the Skills and Apprenticeships Minister Anne Milton. She spoke about how important it is to encourage and support women to have the same opportunities in life as young boys, and that employers are able to access all the talent that is out there.

We want to make as much impact as possible when our video goes out on International Women’s Day. However with just 6 days left we are still some way off our target of 100 supporters. Anything you can do to spread the word through your networks to help us reach our goal would be fantastic.

I hope you have a great weekend.

    Hannah
