A year ago today Mark Martinez and Joseph Irwin lost their lives and mother/teacher Erin Martinez suffered extreme burns when the Martinez home exploded due to a nearby leaking fracked gas line. Their devastating loss has made all too clear that over 70,000 active and abandoned oil and gas wells threaten the safety and health of Colorado residents.
Since health studies show harmful effects to people within a ½ mile of fracking operations, the ballot initiative will establish a buffer zone of 2,500 feet (almost ½ mile) from these operations and occupied buildings or areas of special concern.
Our political leaders and state regulators refuse to enact common sense measures to protect our homes, schools, and water sources from the dangers of oil and gas development, so we the people of Colorado must take our own action and take our issue directly to the voters.
PLEASE DONATE NOW to support the Colorado Rising ballot initiative to establish 2500’ buffer zones to help protect communities from the dangers of oil and gas development and fracking.
Colorado Rising is powering the grassroots effort to pass a statewide ballot initiative establishing common sense protections for our communities from the dangers of oil & gas development and fracking.
